 AMERICAN NUDIST RESEARCH LIBRARY®
DEDICATED TO PRESERVING NUDIST HISTORY WITH
A COMPREHENSIVE ARCHIVE OF NUDIST MATERIAL

THE ANRL COLLECTION

The ANRL Collection of nudist oriented media is being archived with various references methods, for the most part, computer oriented.  Original indexing and paper references are being converted into data bases.  It is the Library’s intention to make the multitude of information that we store available to visitors, members, scholars and authors who are creating the history of the nudist lifestyle in the US and other countries.  The Library ultimately plans to make its collection catalog available to ANRL members on-line.

                                 BOOKS
While there have been relatively few books published on the subject of nudism, the ANRL has a copy of almost all of them as well as other books on related topics.

                                MAGAZINES
The ANRL has an extensive collection of over 7000 magazines. From the 1920’s through the 1950’s, nudists pioneered in the publishing field to bring new respectability to the unadorned human form. This was an era of publishing achievement as well as landmark social and legal decisions. Without a doubt the American Constitution was strengthened because of nudist publishing efforts which resulted in lessening of harsh censorship. Thousands of nudist magazines from that era forward have been bound and carefully preserved by the ANRL. There is also an extensive collection of nudist magazines from other countries, as well as current nudist publications. Together, they represent a world wide record of nudist history available for reflection, interpretation and comparisons through almost a century of publication.

          CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS AND PEOPLE
Through the years, more and more clubs have been formed to offer social nudity a better atmosphere for recreation and friendship. For better leadership, associations have grown worldwide. All these groups have accumulated data in the form of newsletters, brochures, club histories, media releases, photographs, memorabilia, etc. The Library organizes most of this information in club binders and paper files for better reference and asks these groups to send us anything they might have.

Photos received by the Library are preserved in albums, separate flat files and where feasible, referenced as to club, subject or related event. Many photos are on display in the Library depicting nudism from its early beginnings until the present time. Prominent people in our nudist history are included in our Who’s Who in Nudism files.

Club newsletter editors and public relations people are requested to add the Library to your mailing list. The Library welcomes originals or copies of club histories that may be in need of a secure permanent home.

                       VISUAL AND ORAL HISTORY
Several hundred videos have been donated to the Library over the years. These show the history of club activities worldwide, commercial theater presentations and depictions of the nudist life. Many audio cassettes echo the history and observations of nudist pioneers, club owners and other prominent people. Visitors to the Library are welcome to view or listen to these items. The ANRL recently donated several very old 35mm nudist movies to the Library of Congress as it could no longer maintain the increasing fragile celluloid.
